?Cuban? is an important label for two reasons. First, it is yet another depiction of Spanish iconography giving further credence to the idea of manufacturers promoting Spanish culture because the masses identified excellent quality tobacco with the Spanish West Indies. Second, the ?Cuban? is known in the industry as a ?Trimming? or a ?Signature Tag?. ?Trimmings? refers to large labels that were manufactured specifically for the top of the cigar box. They are graphically stronger pieces that were also the first to be recognized as fine art pieces. Today we know of 50 labels, or about 10% of known labels, that qualify as ?Trimmings? or ?Signature Tags?.
