Original Signature by Henri Matisse (SOLD)

$2,500

This is a page taken by Matisse from a book entitled, ‘JAZZ’, 1947, published by Matisse and Efstratios Teriade in a very limited edition of only 100 examples.

It is not unusual for a 20th century artist like Matisse or Picasso to have taken a page from a beautiful coffee table book published on their works, sign them, and give them as gifts to visiting students or guests dropping in at the studio or to friends attending the opening night of an exhibition. These pages made their way to book sellers in Montmarte, Paris by the 1970s and sold as souvenirs.
