Description
Original hand signed woodblock from the illustrations for the Divine Comedy, a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265 – 1321). Dali created 101 watercolor drawings to illustrate the poem. These works have been reproduced using a wood engraving technique. Using this technique, 3500 blocks were carved to print the Salvador Dali Divine Comedy suite completed from 1951 – 1964.
Dali’s surrealist tour of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory blends the sinister and the sensual to a haunting effect.
Art encounter is pleased to present these wonderful woodblock prints signed in color pencil by Salvador Dali (The Inferno images bear a Red signature, Violet for Purgatory and Blue for Paradise). This work of art is an Artist’s Proofs inscribed, EA (epreuve d’artiste).
This work has been framed by our award winning framing division utilizing all conservation materials.
