Description
Original hand signed woodblock from the illustrations for the Divine Comedy, a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265 – 1321). Dali created 101 watercolor drawings to illustrate the poem. These works have been reproduced using a wood engraving technique. Using this technique, 3500 blocks were carved to print the Salvador Dali Divine Comedy suite completed from 1951 – 1964.
Dali’s surrealist tour of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory blends the sinister and the sensual to a haunting effect.
Art encounter is pleased to present this wonderful woodblock print signed in color pencil by Salvador Dali (Inferno images bear a Red signature, Violet for Purgatory and Blue for Paradise). This work of art is an Artist’s Proof from a signed but unnumbered edition.
This work of art has been endorsed and authenticated on the verso by Albert Field in 1992.
This work was beautifully framed in a deep scoop, metallic dark silver finished wooden frame, with the artwork floating on a lovely blue fabric matting by our own award winning framing department using only conservation materials.
