Gianni Schicchi’s Bite (Inferno – canto # 30) by Salvador Dali – SOLD

Artist’s Proof, inscribed, EA (epreuve d’artiste)

Original Woodblock Illustration for Dante’s Divine Comedy

Signed in Red representing Inferno

Framed size: 24 x 19 inches

Description

Original hand signed woodblock from the illustrations for the Divine Comedy, a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265 – 1321). Dali created 101 watercolor drawings to illustrate the poem. These works have been reproduced using a wood engraving technique. Using this technique, 3500 blocks were carved to print the Salvador Dali Divine Comedy suite completed from 1951 – 1964.

Dali’s surrealist tour of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory blends the sinister and the sensual to a haunting effect.

Art encounter is pleased to present these wonderful woodblock prints signed in color pencil by Salvador Dali (The Inferno images bear a Red signature, Violet for Purgatory and Blue for Paradise). This work of art is an Artist’s Proofs inscribed, EA (epreuve d’artiste).

A certificate of authenticity accompanies this work of art. Our own award winning framing division has beautifully framed this artwork utilizing all conservation materials.
