Description
Original hand signed woodblock from the illustrations for the Divine Comedy, a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265 – 1321). Dali created 101 watercolor drawings to illustrate the poem. These works have been reproduced using a wood engraving technique. Using this technique, 3500 blocks were carved to print the Salvador Dali Divine Comedy suite completed from 1951 – 1964.
Dali’s surrealist tour of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory blends the sinister and the sensual to a haunting effect.
Art encounter is pleased to present this wonderful woodblock print signed in color pencil by Salvador Dali. This work of art is an Artist’s Proof from a signed but unnumbered edition.
This work of art has been endorsed and authenticated on the verso by Albert Field in 1992.
This work was beautifully framed in a formal, textured copper metallic finished wooden frame with a single 8 ply matting so as not to distract the viewer. The artwork was framed by our own award winning framing department using only conservation materials. The work of art looks stunning and is one of the cleanest impression of this woodblock we have ever seen.
