Description
Original hand signed woodblock from the illustrations for the Divine Comedy, a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265 – 1321). Dali created 101 watercolor drawings to illustrate the poem. These works have been reproduced using a wood engraving technique. Using this technique, 3500 blocks were carved to print the Salvador Dali Divine Comedy suite completed from 1951 – 1964.
Dali’s surrealist tour of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory blends the sinister and the sensual to a haunting effect.
Art encounter is pleased to present this wonderful woodblock print signed in color pencil by Salvador Dali (Inferno images bear a Red signature, Violet for Purgatory and Blue for Paradise). This work of art is an Artist’s Proofs inscribed, EA (epreuve d’artiste) in the lower left and signed in the lower right.
This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
