Description
Unlike the other artists of his era, Vargas would never allow his works to be reproduced as limited editions, let alone sign and number them. However, prior to his death (late 1982), he chose what he considered his best works to be reproduced. This image is one of the artist’s favorite works of art from the 1920’s. As somewhat of an eccentric and definitely an individual, he then chose to sign and number only 50 of each Artist Proof Prints. With her green feline eyes, Nita Naldi, Ziegfeld Follies performer and star of the silent screen, once set the heart of Rudolph Valentino on fire. In this portrait, the actress also seems to bring life to a stone statue of Pan.
