Description
Original hand signed woodblock from the illustrations for the Divine Comedy, a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265 – 1321). Dali created 101 watercolor drawings to illustrate the poem. These works have been reproduced using a wood engraving technique. Using this technique, 3500 blocks were carved to print the Salvador Dali Divine Comedy suite completed from 1951 – 1964.
Dali’s surrealist tour of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory blends the sinister and the sensual to a haunting effect.
Art encounter is pleased to present these wonderful woodblock prints signed in color pencil by Salvador Dali (The Inferno images bear a Red signature, Violet for Purgatory and Blue for Paradise). All works are Artist’s Proofs inscribed, EA (epreuve d’artiste). We have a very limited number of works available at this low price.
